14 weeks of Programming
(from June 30th – October 1st) will focus on:
• Local Food Education through cooking demonstrations: how to select, purchase, and exciting new ways to prepare local foods;
• Building relationships with local farmers;
• Civic Engagement to proactively pursue innovative and effective services to improve older citizens’ quality of life and their continued contributions to society;
• Improving Health Literacy Skills; the set of skills needed to read, understand, and act on basic health care information. Over 90 million adults with low health literacy skills have limited ability to read and understand the instructions contained on prescriptions or medicine bottles, appointment slips, informed consent documents, insurance forms, and health educational materials. Poor health literacy skills have profound economic consequences.
• Respecting Choices to initiate conversations with adults regarding views about future medical care, assist people with advanced care planning, make available the documents for completion of Power of Attorney for Health Care, tips and guidelines for assisting people to initiate conversations with loved ones about these difficult topics.
