The Master’s Table Farm Market is a pilot project creating a viable Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) for the Connecticut Department of Agriculture based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans and the USDA nutrition program recommendations and nutritional requirements for seniors.
The Master’s Table Farm Market is a pilot program building a farmers’ market specifically for senior citizens in three smaller town Senior Centers including: Morris, Washington Depot, and Middlebury.
The markets will be centered at the local Senior Center sites for 14 weeks, from July 1st to October 1, 2008. This project utilizes the USDA’s recommendations of behavioral economics and social marketing techniques to increase the purchasing and consumption of local fruits and vegetables while creating a senior nutrition program that can be replicated throughout the state of Connecticut.
The Master’s Table Farm Market Program & Training Guide containing all of the aspects of the Master’s Table Farm Market SFMNP will be completed by November 1, 2008, and will be presented to the Department of Agriculture.
BRIDGES will also present the results of the Master’s Table Farm Market to Area Agencies on Aging and other State and Federal agencies, and will highlight recommendations for future programming growth, areas of funding, and recommendations for joint programming across Connecticut agencies specializing in providing support to senior citizens.
